Turbo Tax E-filers Refund Delay

Taxpayers who filed their tax returns electronically using Turbo Tax by Intuit may experience a delay in getting their refunds due to a ‘processing error’ by Turbo Tax.  The Turbo Tax spokesperson, Julie Miller issued a statement:
“We deeply regret the inconvenience this has caused these customers.  We made a mistake and are doing everything we can to make it right.  We are communicating directly with customers affected and of course, we’ve waived all TurboTax fees.”
This error affects possibly thousands of taxpayers who opted to receive their refunds via direct deposit.  If you are one of the affected taxpayers, you will be receiving your tax refund by paper check instead.  Furthermore, the IRS will mail your check approximately one week after the day you were scheduled to get your direct deposit.
In addition, the date of the expected refund has also changed for many taxpayers.  Those who expected their refunds on February 4 discovered that their expected date of refund has been changed to February 22.  Some who expected a refund on Jan 28 would now get their paper check refund by Feb 15.  According to some taxpayers, their refund dates have been changed two or more times without any reasons given.
But just what was the ‘processing error’ made by Turbo Tax?  No one knows for sure.  But one thing is certain – the IRS confirmed that they did not receive any direct deposit banking information from Turbo Tax.  Hence there is speculation that the last page of the tax returns that bears the relevant information for direct deposit was never transmitted by Turbo Tax.
Another complaint is that the calls made to Turbo Tax customer service resulted in long waiting times and no concrete answers.  Logging into the website brought no better results either.
This entire episode will undoubtedly create bad publicity for Turbo Tax and Intuit.  Although taxpayers have been told that it’s ‘only going to be an extra week’ to get their paper check, it does little to reassure irate filers.  Even one week may be too long a time for many.  This is especially so because if the paper check is delayed, the IRS cannot trace it immediately.
Turbo Tax’s Facebook fan page is deluged with expressions of anger and frustration by many affected taxpayers starting from February 3.  Unfortunately, there is nothing anyone can do besides wait.
On their part, Intuit has pledged to waive their $30 processing fee and solve this problem quickly.

Yeah I am one of the ones effected by this fiasco. Thanks alot Turbo Tax. I think you should pay us for our inconveniences…some people had to borrow money to cover stuff that should have been covered with our direct deposits that we were guaranteed. Class action sounds good to me at this point.

I too was included in this debacle. I\'m am so upset. I will have to wait for my money to come through a very unsecure mail system. The reason I pay extra money is so my money is safely deposited into my account.

Did anyone say class action? Count me in!

The same thing happened to me. They have been promising a call from one of the vp's for a week. There is supposed to be a system in place to help those who are experiencing a "life/death" hardship. Of coarse, there has been no call. After a any life/death situation would no longer be classified as life/death. Shame on turbotax. I give them two thumbs down and a bad recommendation to anyone who ever mentions the words "taxes" to me. Never Ever Again!

I have also been effected by this, my first date of deposit was February 18th, then March 1st and now shows nothing except just a delay in processing. I am a little bummed, however it is refreshing to know that it's happening to more people than just me so it takes away any worry that I did something wrong when filing, lol. I am sure that if we are all just patient and do our best to be positive it will work out as quickly as possible and we will all be happily spending our money in no time. Have a good night and I wish for everyone to get their returns this week. :-)

My original dd date was 3/4/11. It has now changed to 3/15/11. I called IRS for an explanation and was told that the "processing error" has been corrected and I should receive my refund by 3/15. I asked if the amount of refund changed and was told that the "system" they were using does not have that information. Those replies sound like standard decoys for actual facts.

I too have been affected by this. I am waiting on a family member to get their taxes so they can help me out. They should have gotten it DD on Feb 25 and still nothing yet!

I still have no recieved anything. I did file with Turbo Tax (Intuit) and it was approved on 2-15-2011 by the IRS. Now it says it is being processed?? A few weeks ago it showed deposit date of 3-1-11 on the "wheres my refund" site.. Can anyone post a comment to help shed some light on this? Any thoughts on when I will get my refund, mail or direct deposit??
